We are pleased to welcome our Guest Blogger, Ashley, who shares her shopping secrets daily on her blog, Frugal Coupon Living. Today, she is sharing with us one of her favorite tips for crafting with the kids:
My children go through craft supplies fast. One great solution at home is using homemade supplies to make crafts. One easy and incredibly affordable recipe is for homemade finger paints!
Ingredients:
½ teaspoon of salt
½ cup corn starch
3 tablespoons of sugar
2 cups of water
Directions:
Combine ingredients on the stove in a saucepan. Warm until the substance thickens. Let the liquid cool and then pour into separate containers. Add color to your paint with food coloring.
For storage, Organize.com has dozens of plastic containers for saving paint. I love the brand Lock n Lock because it provides a tight seal and keeps the point moist. Another idea, while your child is painting, is to sort colors into an egg tray. I keep one side with primary colors and allow the child to mix colors on the other side of the egg tray.
